Birthdays. They come and go. Some disappoint you, others pull through. Just like people I guess. I went into my last birthday without expectations. For the last few years I’ve combined my birthday celebration with friends and family who are around the same date. I stressed about every single detail to the point where at the end of the night I forgot that it was my day to, and at times was bringing out my own cake. I’m a bit of control freak when it comes to vision and for some reason feel the need to be involved in every aspect of the situation.

This year I said fuck it. I’m getting too old for this shit when I could just save my energy into a kick ass Halloween costume for next year. I decided it would be awesome if we hooked up Rock Band on the second floor of the Gown and use a projector to reflect the game on a bed sheet. Who ever messaged me that day or was wondering what I was doing, I told them to meet me there. No invites, no fuss, no big deal. I wanted a simple night out involving one of my favorite past times.

Everyone got drunk before me because I was so determined to kill it on the drums that I refused to take shots until well into the night. All the people that I wanted to see were there and it was a nice compact group. Definitely a birthday for the books.

I must say that I’m not the type of person to get upset if a friend misses my birthday, but there are some people you think would at least call even if things aren’t as they once were. I guess after you get rid of facebook you find out who your real friends are. It also has to do with getting older and figuring out what you want out of life so I’ll take that with stride over a sour face any day.

I can’t believe my mom actually thought I wouldn’t like these balloons. They’re like the raddest balloons I’ve ever seen. With the exception of those ones that clowns and balloon wizards twist to make crazy shapes.

Upstairs Dave. One of the funniest people that I have ever met in my life.

Fitting birthday outfit.

The glass of wine that fit an entire bottle. They were shoving this thing in front of my face all night. I downed it right before I left.

Iggy’s tricked out birthday card. One of the best for sure.

And then for the second part of my birthday we went to Toronto on the weekend to hang out with Kristin and her girlfriend Britney. Kristin’s birthday is a day after mine so I had to go and pass off the torch. We went out to Church St. and after finding a vial of G on the ground at Woody’s, and getting snickered at by gay men on the prowl for other gay men we went across the street to Cruz and Tango. If I still lived in Toronto I would probably be at this place every weekend. It was more straight friendly and the transvestites put on one of the best shows you will see. By the end of the night I was lip syncing to Niki Minaj’s Super Bass with my ass in the air having the time of my life.

Korean BBQ on Yonge St.

mmm kimchi. I’ve waited for this.
