Haiti pt.4
Day 4
Oh the days of school born rays
Have swept out the pages
Left memories of innocent days
I quietly eat my granola bar behind the truck so that the children don’t see because most of them show signs of malnutrition. The yellowish tinge at the root of their hair and protruding belly buttons was like part of their school uniform. I remember right before we left I was hunting for the perfect...
Sesame Street
O.k, so maybe I’m late on this one but the last time I watched Sesame Street I was in diapers sitting in front of the tube, face to face. I heard about this the other day. That Sesame Street producers were getting rid of the Cookie Monster because he promotes obesity and that Oscar promotes bad hygiene. My first thought was this is just another way for the U.S to put the blame on something...

Day 3
Hearing voodoo spells in the middle of the night outside my window, accompanied by barking dogs all night
I awake to pastor Tony Paul singing from the first floor “breakfast is ready, come to the feast”
I brush my teeth carefully, thinking about how much water I should be using and pouring from my water bottle instead of the sink to rinse off. Flush only when necessary.
It takes about...

Day 2
Port-au-Prince International Airport, Haiti
Most things can be pretty terrifying the first time you experience them. Haiti is no exception. I am waiting at the Port-au-Prince airport for our small charter plane to carry us over Cap-Haitien, and then another hour in the back of a truck through dirt roads and the highest of poverty to reach our final destination. As a person with extreme...

Haiti pt.1
Visiting Haiti for the first time did a lot of things for me. One of them being exposed to how people live and the measures they take to survive. This journey was an up and down roller coaster of events which spun my mind out of control at certain times. I traveled with a group of 12 people from different parts of Canada with an organization called Joy and Hope of Haiti. Besides the cultural shock...
Speechless.

Last night I eagerly waited for the first episode of Vice’s Guide to Everything on MTV. The show lived up to all of its expectations, if not more, and will continue to be the only show I watch on MTV. Except for 16 and Pregnant, when I need a good...
MEATBALLS!!!!
It’s Thursday and I’m sitting at work waiting to take a break so I can devour the meatball sub from Pane Fresco. It’s hands down the one thing, besides writing, I look forward to on Thursdays. Located in downtown Burlington (Ontario) this Italian bakery kicks all other homemade meatballs to the curb. all of their products are made in house so the bread is always crispy on the...
The Best of Craigslist
I read this today and thought, finally, someone else gets it.
every girl that dreams of dating a bearded uptown hipster with a bike
Date: 2010-02-12, 4:05AM CST let me just remind you that when you take away the fixed-gear bike, the messenger bag, the scarf that’s worn year-round, the ironic t-shirt, the dumb shoes, the pbr, the tattoos, plugs, and the stupid beard, we all look the same. ...
To Haiti and Back
I recently got back from a trip to Haiti that opened my eyes in so many ways. Apart from having to evacuate the country due to political riots and the outbreak of cholera, I managed to have one of the best experiences to date. Here are a few sample photo’s which were taken by the Diana Mini film camera. The full article will be posted in a few weeks with details and more photo’s.
My disappointment with “music” channels runs miles long. Officially every channel has been taken over with reality TV or lame brainwashing shows (for the majority). Everyday I will post a music video. Old or new they will all be great. There are so many great videos which unfortunately never make it out on the tube.
